Ethical Sales and Marketing for Virtually Robyn

April 24, 2026  ·  6 min read

I will be the first to tell you that I am a marketer's dream.

Whatever you're selling, I think I need it.

The marketing doesn't even have to be that good for me to be convinced.

I joined the online business world in July 2025 and I was very quickly inundated with an overwhelming amount of options and offers.

As I ventured into the online business world more and more, I started getting unsolicited messages from people sharing their offers.

Umm what. I might not be your typical "business gal" (meaning I don't have any kind of business degree), but immediately the only thing these "offers" did for me is give me the ick.

Before we get into WHY ethical marketing matters to me and how that shows up in my business, let me introduce myself. I'm Robyn of Virtually Robyn, an Online Business Manager who specializes in supporting business owners with ADHD. I help you keep track of things while also keeping your business on track.

Here is more about why ethical marketing matters and how that shows up in my business.

Why Ethical Marketing Matters to Me

I was a special education teacher for ten years before I ventured into entrepreneurship. I have worked with children ages kindergarten through fifth grade with a variety of abilities.

I was a really good teacher. I don't say that to brag, but I was good at what I did and I cared deeply about all children being provided the tools they needed in order to make progress towards their goals.

Part of my job was not only to provide accommodations and specially designed instruction, but also to teach children — both those with and without disabilities — to advocate for themselves and others.

I continue to work on being an advocate for others in the online business world because those children who were in my classroom? They're going to grow up and some of them will likely own businesses. I want to know that I've done my part to support ethical marketing.

Ethical Marketing Values and Virtually Robyn

Honesty

Honesty sounds straight forward and we really hope that business owners are honest…but the unfortunate reality (that sometimes you have to learn the hard way) is that not all of them are.

In my business, honesty is knowing my limitations and sharing them with clients (or potential clients) and being transparent about what I'm confident in!

I have been on more than one discovery call (like an interview with a potential client) where I have told the potential client, "I don't think I'm the gal for the job, but I'd love to help you find someone".

Also, I will tell clients when I think something they're doing doesn't align with their goals or capacity. I am my client's biggest cheerleader and supporter, but not to the detriment of their business.

I am upfront and honest when I think an investment they're considering or path they want to pursue doesn't align with goals they've already shared.

Ultimately, clients make the decisions for their businesses, but I always share my thoughts and remind them of the goals we've outlined together.

Judgement Free

I am usually one of the first people clients have let see "behind the curtain" and that's a big deal. They have created their business from the ground up with blood, sweat, and usually some tears.

It's often a little unconventional behind the scenes when I show up, but I mean it with my whole heart when I say that I show up judgement free.

There is no shame or judgement when clients don't have any documented systems. You can be really good at your business and what you offer clients while struggling with the behind the scenes parts of being a business owner.

Working through a client's denial pile in the behind the scenes of their business is really a team effort. In my 90 Day Systems Fix, we talk about client's goals, what works best for their brain and I create systems based on that.

This process usually requires some tasks on the client side while I do the heavy lifting. I make sure to always provide accountability and check-ins to clients to support them without making a client feel like they've done something wrong or they're letting me down.

Clear Guidance

I will share what I think and why about decisions that need to be made. Decision fatigue is a real problem for many of my clients so if I can lighten the load by providing them with an informed decision and the reasoning behind it, I want to do that.

I support my retainer clients with decision making all the time through Slack messages and monthly calls — vacation, tech equipment, which task to do first, how to structure their work blocks, etc. I also help clients with decisions through strategy calls where we tackle their denial pile and help them move through analysis paralysis.

No Fake Urgency Here

You won't hear "doors are closing" or any version of that from me. I am a one woman show so I do have limited availability to work with people, but not in a "you won't be successful without me, you have to choose my offer right now" way.

When potential clients ask about my capacity for ongoing support, I'm honest. I only have so much time in the day and I want all of my clients to feel supported! And if it doesn't work out for us to work together, I know that they will still be successful.

I also really love helping clients find another solution to their problem if I'm not gal. I love providing referrals to other business owners I know will meet the needs of a potential client.

A Different Way to Do Business

If you've ever felt the same "ick" from online marketing, you're not alone.

There is so much noise in the online space telling you that you need to do more, be more, buy more and it usually comes with the "right NOW" language. But the truth is, you get to decide how you run your business.

And that's how I choose to approach every client relationship – not just helping you stay organized and move your business forward, but doing it in a way that feels aligned and supportive the whole way through.

If you're looking for someone who will be honest with you, meet you where you are, and help you create systems that actually work for your life, I'd love to connect.
